Reel Islington Film Festival 2012
We are launching Reel Islington Film Festival which will take place from 24th -26th February 2012 and feature films that represent the theme ‘We the People’. It will showcase the work of both established and up-and-coming filmmakers and include workshops and talks led by industry professionals.
The festival is being produced by Reel Islington in partnership with Holloway Neighbourhood Group and Rowan Arts.

Battle of Orgreave (2001)
Followed by a discussion with artist Jeremy Deller and Jeremy Corbyn MP

Screening of ‘The Battle of Orgreave’, a film directed by Oscar-nominated Mike Figgis. The film follows Jeremy Deller’s extraordinary re-enactment of the violent miner’s strike in 1984. Deller will take time out from preparations on his first major retrospective at the Hayward Gallery to join Jeremy Corbyn MP for a discussion directly after the screening.

The Great Dictator (1940)
Directed by Charles Chaplin
The first all-talking feature length film from the king of visual comedy, Charlie Chaplin. A Jewish barber takes the place of a power hungry dictator in this satirical wartime comedy. (125 minutes)

The Wind that Shakes the Barley (2006)
Followed by Q&A with director Ken Loach.
This drama set during the Irish War of Independence and the Irish Civil War tells the story of two brothers who join the fight against British rule. The film received rave reviews for being “breathtakingly authentic”, as well as winning the Palme d’Or Best Picture at the Cannes Film Festival 2006. (127 minutes)

Leaving Baghdad (2010)

Leaving Baghdad is a road movie that follows the journey of Sadik, the personal cameraman to the leader Saddam Hussein at the end of the nineties. The film follows Sadik as he tries to escape the grip of the regime and reunite with his estranged wife in London.(85 minutes)
